Which is the best Apple mobile device, the iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS?
I have the money but $99 is a lot better then $199 plus I am paying a termination fee from my old carrier to switch to AT&T on top of it.
Your opinions will be very helpful, thanks in advance.

The battery life is roughly the same: 7 hours talk on the 4G vs. 5 hours on the 3GS. One other factor you should consider is the reception problems which seems to have plagued the 4G. You may lose reception just by holding the phone the wrong way.
If the camera function is not that important to you, then should probably go with the 3GS as you can save money.

M$I pick the iphone 4 with or without the issues, because of its real video calling capability. I will wait for an upgraded iphone 4 unless buying one now can get me a free upgrade when a more stable version of the iphone 4 becomes available.
The iphone 4 has a lot of other things to offer that its direct ancestor doesn't. The prices you quoted 99 and 199 are meaningless because the actual prices of the two editions of the iphone are in the several hundred dollars. 100 dollar extra for facetime video calling plus a lot of features minus the technical issues is not a bad investment.

M$*The area you live in: Where I live, we still don't even get 3G network. What would I do with a 4G phone? I don't expect to be getting it anytime soon. I don't feel that the features on the 4G, like a bit of a better camera and FaceTime is worth the extra money.
*How long will the contract be for? If you can get a short term contract and get the phone for a cheap price, then go for the 3GS. By the time the contract is over with, the iPhone 4 will be cheaper. I don't think the life of the phones go much further than the contracts anyways.
*From what I've heard and researched, the 3GS is better. The iPhone 4 has been having a heap of problems. For this reason, I defiantly don't think it's worth the extra money. I'd probably wait until they have mastered it more.

M$However, if you would still prefer an iPhone 4, and yours is free of the aforementioned problems, there are benefits. Video calling is ideal with Apple’s retina display and the highest resolution display ever built into a phone. The phone features a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, HD video recording and up to 40 percent longer talk time.
