Which is better older vampire movies, or new?

Do you prefer the newer types of vampire movies such as Twlight and Underworld, older movies such as Dusk till Dawn or Interview with the Vampire, or the classic vampire flicks such as Nasferatu and Dracula? Alternatively do they all just sort of rank the same in your book? Do you think it's interesting that as these types of movies evolve vampires become less "monsterized" and more human?

I much rather watch the modern produced vampire movies. I guess because they are less scary to me. Some of those old movies would scare me for weeks to come after watching them. I liked the Blade movies, the Van Helsing and the Twilight movies. I also really liked The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which had some vampire related material. The Van Helsing and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen are based on some old material, but it was modernized up some I guess.

I do think that Twilight does make you have more compassion and see the vampires more like people. They have emotions of real people in the movies, and it doesn't seem possible that they could.. you know being something so evil and all. Even the whole thing with blood from animals, rather than people gives them this moral complex.

I am always fascinated by vampire movies although I have tried to minimize watching them since I have a 6-year old daughter who want nothing to do with vampires and other gory creatures. There are some old vampire movies that I like and there are also some new vampire movies that I love to watch too. I think the old vampire movies have their own distinct characteristics that makes them more interesting and the same with the new ones too.
I must say it depends on what movie it is. There are some old vampire movies that I like that you have mentioned. The movie with Christian Slater and Tom Cruise, Interview with the Vampire was an interesting movie for me, plus my idol Tom Cruise is a vampire in this movie so I found it more interesting. :-). Another old one that I saw, well not really old, I think it was released in the 90s which starred my favorite comedian actor Eddie Murphy, the movie is entitled Vampire in Brooklyn is also a favorite of mine. I have many old vampire movies that my husband and I love watching, because these are full of action like the Blade, The Lost Boys and Van Helsing.

The Twilight movie is included in my favorite list, I found the story interesting, romantic, plus the character of Edward Cullen which is very mysterious and something that is new to me makes it appealing. Although it is common knowledge that vampires are hundreds of years old, what fascinated me was how strong he is and how he can jump from one tree to the other and he can run as fast as a lightning.
So, I think that it depends on the movie, story, and how they were made. Maybe this is the reason why I have old and new vampire movies that is included in my favorite list.

While the newer vampire movies have all the cool special effects and the romance I still prefer the older vampire movies. Now don’t get me wrong I love the newer ones like Twilight but the older ones are scarier because without all the special effects they force you to use your imagination. There is nothing more effective at creeping you out than your own creepy thoughts whirling around in your head. :)

Some of my favorite vampire movies are…and these are in no particular order.

Blade (1998)
Blade II (2002)
Blade Trinity (2004)
Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)
Dracula (1931)
Nosferatu (1922)
Underworld (2003)
Dracula 2000 (2000)
John Carpenter’s Vampires (1999)
Queen of the Damned (2002)
Van Helsing (2004)
Wes Craven Presents: Dracula 2000 (2000)
Interview with a Vampire (1994)

The old movies were way better and scarier than this superficial, special effect galore featuring models with poor acting.

I love all kinds of vampires and some werewolves, but the more recent ones seem to be more personable and not so scary. I watched Dark Shadows in my tween years and I was in love with Barnabus and the other vamps. I would dream of one of them flying into my room at night, nipping at my neck and making me a vampire for the rest of my life. I always thought I would love to be a vampire.

I haven’t seen The Twilight Series yet, but from what I have seen, these vampires are luscious too. I have been the new series The Gates the last few weeks and I really think I’m going to fall in love with the vampires and werewolves in that series. The werewolves run in the night and it’s so neat. And some of the vampires are trying to live “normal lives” and not feast on humans but it is very difficult for them. I think I’m going to love this show. I still can’t figure out how they can go out during the day in the sunlight. Back in the old days, vampires couldn’t do that.
