Which is better for children - the HP TouchSmart or the iPad?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Having done some research about the HP TouchSmart, on Google to find out the differences compared to the iPad, I would say as a generalization, the iPad would be better for kids.

I soon discovered that the TouchSmart has a whole range of brilliant features, but this is a much more expensive and far more comprehensive item than the iPad, selling at around $1,861.14, so I don't really think it is a suitable item to buy for a child unless money is no object and the child is old enough and careful enough to appreciate an item of this quality and sophistication. Even then there is the chance of spoiling the child with this amount of money being spent on a gift.

This is what amazon.com says about the TouchSmart;

"More than just a Tablet PC, the HP TouchSmart tx2-1020us laptop is the world's first multi-touch consumer laptop, enabling the use of two fingers to navigate HP's entertainment MediaSmart applications. You can also surf the Web and use applications intuitively by touching the screen with a finger. The tx2 is also a true Tablet PC, allowing you to fold the display flat for writing and drawing with the included pen."

Given the choice, I would buy the entry level 16GB iPad, then see how well the child 1), looked after it and 2), how many of the features were being used other than games.

Both the HP Touch Smart and the iPad are enjoyed by children. Kids think with their hands so these small computer tablets are great for them. There are a number of iPad apps that are great for them. You can get them A Story Before Bed app which is free. There is also a version that you pay for which offers features such as recording your own family's voice while reading the stories. Kids will also enjoy Smule's Magic Piano. This is an application where kids can use their imaginations to play the keys freestyle or learn classical pieces. Word Magic is a program that can teach young children words and letter sounds in fun ways. The HP Touch Smart is used in some schools and children do like them. However, this is more expensive than the iPad if you are considering price.
