Which is better for business promotion on FB? A group or Business Page? Any insight is greatly appreciated...

That seems to be the general opinion of others also. One of the best things you can do with Pages is send messages to members without creating a threaded message that can be used by a competitor.

M$- Unlike Groups, Pages are visible to unregistered people and are thus indexed (important for reputation management, for example);
- Unlike Pages, Groups allow to send out “bulk invite” (you can easily invite all your friends to join the group while with pages you will be forced to drop some invites manually). Groups are thus better for viral marketing, meaning that any group member can also send bulk invites to the friends of his.
- Pages are generally better for a long-term relationships with your fans, readers or customers;
- While Groups are generally better for hosting a (quick) active discussion and attracting quick attention.

M$I think that it's sort of the way things are going. Also having a group wouldn't hurt, I'm sure, but I think you're more likely to gain a following with a Business Page.

M$The best way to monetize all depends on what type of app you're looking to create. Is it a game, a social utility, or something else? Before you start, I'd advise taking a look at the more popular apps and seeing why they work so well. How are they designed, what kind of features do they have to make people want to invite their friends, and what benefit are they bringing (To both the users, and also the platform)?
Once you've done that, get out a pen and paper, go and sit somewhere quiet, and write out a few ideas / designs. Go away for a few hours, think it over, and then come back. Think about it purely from a usability point of view - how are you going to get people into the app? Without that, you won't be successful. Once you think you've got a winner, go away and start putting the app together (And then hope for the best).
