This is because visitors from search engine who are looking for information are the ones which has the highest conversion rate into AdSense clicks. Whenever they are done reading on your blog or website, they will hop onto another relevant website. If your AdSense ad is attractive to them, they will click.
Loyal blog readers on the other hand doesn't convert well, because they had turn ad-blind. So used to your ad, and fully knowing it's an ad that they ignore it completely on every visit.
Same goes to online forum and web app. They visit these websites on their own will, knowing exactly what to expect, which is a tool for them to communicate with other people or a tool to get their work done. They are not looking for a specific information, and tends to ignore ads.
For beginners, I suggest that you start a blog of a topic you are highly passionate in. Write quality content, do some SEO (search engine traffic makes the most AdSense money) and continuously improve your blog by learning from other successful bloggers.
But then most people start their websites first, then discover AdSense and use it to monetize it, instead of starting a blog so that they can make money of AdSense.
Best of luck :)
