Which is a better pet for kids, a dog or a cat?

Which do you believe is a better pet for kids, a dog or a cat? I am very curious. I do not have any experience with cats. We have 4 English Bulldogs and growing up we had dogs as well. What would be the pros and cons to getting a dog and a cat? Is one better under different circumstances? Which is a better pet for kids?

Honestly, I think it depends on the child. Some children are more active with playing outside, exploring and sports. I think children like this tend to be more dog people. Children who like to stay indoors, read, and play with doll houses or legos, seem to be more cat people. My brothers got along better with dogs. They liked running and exploring in the woods. They also are not extremely sensitive.

I am more of a sensitive person. I didn't enjoy being outdoors a lot. I come more near playing with Barbie or playing a game. I was so much more a cat person. My sister was as well. She would even dress her cat up with outfits. She had a cat that would ride in the horse trailer of her Barbies and it would also ride in her stroller.

It really does depend on the child. I would rather had a cat on any given day. My brothers loved dogs so much more.

The best pet for more than one child is definitely a dog. They are more active and like to play as much as kids do. Cats on the other hand are very fickle and like to spend more time relaxing than running around. They don't like to be play with, specially by a bunch of kids, they prefer to be petted.

If you decide to get both, a dog and a cat, you ahve to make sure they both get along. A dog can be used to play with and the cat to relax with. There's really no con against this, except when it comes to paying for their care. (eg. food, vets, toys..etc)

A dog is definitely the better pet for children. Since kids love to cuddle and love to play, they need a pet that wants to interact with them. Dogs are pack animals, and will accept your children as members of their pack. Cats, however, like to have their own space, and don't really like to interact with people, particularly children.
