Which guitar effects are truly useful for a semi-pro?
I am starting to play electric guitar after I've played the accoustic one for 4 years now and I already have a nice guitar and an awesome amp. But do I need guitar effects as well? Which are affordable and yet good at the same time?

Well, a good distortion pedal is always a good place to start, but there are so many cool pedals out there, it really just depends on what you are trying to do.
Go the electro-harmonix website (no I don't work for them or anything) at
http://www.ehx.com. They make a ton of great pedals and you can listen to what each one does to your sound on their website. Their distortion pedal, the Big Muff Pi, has been around for years and has been used by people like Hendrix and Santana, but they make lots of other really cool, reasonably priced pedals. You can always find used pedals on ebay too. Hope his helps.
