You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Demand=Need=Right E-Commerce
Is he/she going to be big like "Tiger Direct" or small like $2,000 sales a month? So much depends on the product(s) and the ability to push those products out the door. I usually would go with the most user friendly and best customer service because no matter how many questions you have, if the company has 24/7 customer on-chat service, you can get help right away. Those two options for any program matters to me the most.
Not sure if that helps you at all, but without knowing this person's needs, I cannot assist in giving him/her the proper information.

M$I agree with your statement, You could also check this site(rel="nofollow" href="http://www.mailware.com/mailware/integration/cart-comparison/">http://www.mailware.com/mailware/integration/cart-comparison/shopping cart software/url) where you can view shopping cart's respective features and their information for better comparison. This will help you choose which shopping cart does have the features you need for your ecommerce business.

Good answer and good follow up question.
They are going to sell mostly appairal and school branded stuff. Also there will be link shared (click through) items. I.E. Staples, HP computers, home supplies, etc.
Any others suggestions?
I would suggest OSCommerce or Zen Cart because of a key phrase you used "New User." From what I can tell about [www.mahalo.com/oscommerce OSCommerce] and [www.mahalo.com/zen-cart Zen Cart] is that they are both user friendly, easy to use which is great for people just starting out.
They can always then go for the one I would choose [www.mahalo.com/Marketecture Marketecture] but I'm not sure they are ready for something that has so much to offer. You can actually get lost in the mix.

That too might help that person you know look deeper into what's out there. First time user needs it to be easy, user friendly and great 24/7 customer support. I hope that helps.
