Which countries hold elections on which days of the week, and why?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

In Britain the elections have been held on Thursdays since the 1930's. Before that they varied among the other days of the week.
In Australia the elections are on Saturdays. Voting is mandatory.
India has a complicated system with elections on different days of the week.
In France, election day is on Sunday because people don't have to go to work or school. They are fiercely secular.
Italy has two day elections, apparently, Sunday and Monday.
I really don't see much pattern here. Some countries use weekend days, some use weekdays and declare a holiday, or a half holiday, or none at all.

Nice round up.
I would guess weekends would be better for turnout. (And weekends at a time of year when the weather is mild even more so.)
