Which countries consume the most flour per capita, and what impact does that have on health/obesity?

Tip for best answer: M$3.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

It looks like Australia leads the world in wheat consumption, which would INCLUDE flour but would not be limited to it:

They're followed by Russia, Turkey and Canada.

This doesn't really seem to line up with obesity statistics all that well:

Though nations like US consume more flour per capita (and overall) than nations like India and China, and also have higher rates of obesity, I'm not sure there's any direct link, certainly not a provable one. Seems like a correlation rather than a causation.

I'd say a more likely suspect, just in talking about types of food ingested, would be corn rather than flour. Here, the US leads the world:

Great answer! On the obesity/health risks ... I think meat would be a better indicator than corn.

There are different kinds of flour. But according to FAO, the country who imports more flour of wheat (the most common one) is Lybia. The consumption of flour does not have a direct correlation to obesity, I don't think. Better look at sugar and fat consumption for that.
