Which children's story books were/are your favorite to read to your children?

When my older son was a toddler, we often read "Goodnight Moon", "The Runaway Bunny", "Brown Bear, Brown Bear", and other favorites together when I took him to daycare (I usually made sure I had enough time to read to him before leaving him there). Now I borrowed all these books again from our library to read to my younger son and my daycare children. Are there any particular books you enjoyed reading with your child when he/she was little?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I don't ever remember my mother reading to me so I never really had a favorite until I had my children.

My older children liked Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I don't know how many times I read that book over the years. LOL My youngest son is nine and just getting to where he can read pretty well so we actually read to each other. :) Our favorites are Thomas the Tank Engine and Dr. Suess.

My daughter is still little so we are really just beginning the book phase. She seems to like the Eric Carle books probably for their bright colors and pictures. She isn't much into the story part of the books yet. My daughter does like some of the picture books where you have to find things since she is still pre-verbal and doesn't read. Also, books with pictures of animals are another favorite (such as the Priddy books)

When I was younger, I had a nursery rhyme book that was my favorite. I would read it constantly. I have the book now still and will read it to my daughter when she gets older, though she has something similar and more recent which might be better since the other book is quite old.

I don't remember many other children pictures books being my favorite. I know I enjoyed the story, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh. I'm not sure the reading level of that book though since I was an independent reader when I was reading it.

Oh the David Smells books are pretty funny. You might try those.
