The Hobbit came first. It was written in 1937. Lord of the Rings was the sequel for "The Hobbit." "The Hobbit" was a much simpler, fantasy written for children. J.R.R. Tolkien was the author of these epic books from 1937 to 1949. There is a general misunderstanding that they were meant to be a trilogy. His publisher decided it was best to print the two books as three. Tolkien finished the trilogy from 1954-1955: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. The books are split into two parts each. Tolkien’s books have been translated into multiple languages and are famous all over the world. They have recently been made into three movies. The movies were spectacular and I enjoyed them immensely.
