Where will Stephon Marbury wind up playing this year, and will he hurt or help that team?

He's set to wind up with the Celtics, especially since Skadden (law firm) just negotiated the buy-out between Marbury and the Knicks this afternoon.

John Hollinger has a great article weighing the pros and cons of the Celtics signing Marbury.

Here's Marbury's career stats, and it's interesting to note that he only played 24 games last season, and hasn't played at all yet this season.

As a Celtics fan, I hope he's not too rusty, but he's going to have to practice for a few weeks before he gets any serious minutes. Since he hasn't played much during the past few years, it's going to take some time for him to not only get his conditioning back, but also his "game sense" back, for lack of a better word, as the NBA is so fast-paced.

All in all, I see him regaining form in a month or so, which will give him just enough time to get some serious minutes during the regular season, so he'll be ready to hit the ground running in the playoffs.

I see him taking some minutes from Rondo, but Eddie House is going to be the most affected by the addition of Marbury. I see many of House's minutes being taken by Marbury.

As Hollinger mentions, it's a no-risk situation for the Celtics, as they can simply release him and lose nothing but the pro-rated veterans minimum salary. Marbury has everything to gain, as he'll have a (hopefully) three-plus month audition for the rest of the NBA to prove that he can still play, and get a new contract this summer.

Yep, it looks like Marbury is going to be in uniform for the Celtics tonight against the Pacers!

Boston. He will help them. Needs to do very little and Garnett will take no crap from him!

I agree it's Boston, but I think he could also help the Lakers win.

I'm almost certain Marbury will end up with the Celtics, and I think he will help them short-term. I think reuniting with Garnett and finally being out of NYC will solve any attitude problems he may have. He's also not being relied upon to be a star player or a leader, he's only being asked to come off the bench and play his role to get his team a ring. However, I see this being an acquisition like PJ Brown and Sam Cassell last year, where he's only going to be with the team for this year, then he's either out of the league or with another team.
