Where to find OEM car part numbers list?

For example, when you call a dealer they have a huge database of parts numbers. How can the average person go about finding car parts numbers online? Is there like a huge list or database somewhere that I'm missing? A great big book of everything? I'd imagine the biggies like Chevy and Ford would have a list online somewhere but all I can find is websites claiming to have a list but they just have a part search option, nothing to help find parts numbers. The only one I can find is for BMW.

I'd like to track down parts numbers lists for different makes, models, Ford, Chevy, Pontiac (mostly American Cars)... I don't want the store parts numbers- I need original manufacturer's /factory numbers- OEM.

The person who can provide me with a COMPLETE LIST of RELIABLE WEBSITES FOR OEM PART NUMBER LISTS (ones that aren't trying to sell me parts or lead me on a wild goose chase) gets the tip.

Help! Thank you :)

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Here are a couple sites that will give you the part number once you identify the part you are looking for:

http://www.autohausaz.com/
http://www.drivewire.com/
http://www.diyautoparts.com/

If you wanted a complete list of parts and their part number for use in a database or other data source, I would have to agree with southwestandrew.

Each manufacture web site generally has a good selection of OEM parts.

I have worked in the Aerospace industry for several years as a broker, what I used to do was locate military parts & units for various projects that different company's were working on, I basically located the part, from either OEM, Resellers & so forth, 90% of my work was done on line, there were a few places where I could always go & locate lists, #s & Schematics for new & used parts of all types, for Auto applications I Highly recommend this site, which I feel would be the best place for you to start, the Customer service will always be happy to answer questions & direct you to other locations as well. The parts bin does have OEM lists & alternate parts you could use also, the reason they are a good resourse is because they are a broker dealer, which means they can purchase parts directly from the manufacture and they also have access to overstock from all manufactures, be it OEM or Original manufacture, they usually guarantee any parts & will always have parts lists you can access...
Good Luck!

This website lists both a Part Number, and Manufacturer Number. It also seems to carry parts for most American made vehicles.
