Where should I start if I were to learn about cloud computing?

What a very good question! Cloud computing is, indeed, the future and if we can all work with it, so much the better!
I personally learnt "cloud computing" via "Google Docs". There are many others, too, but I found that the fastest way learn about managing documents, spreadsheets and presentations and much more was looking at the Google video "Google Docs in plain English". It really explains everything about it. Have a look at it now:

There are many more "Google Doc" videos on how to use it, how many other applications one can integrate, it is really amazing!
And then there is, of course, the Dummy Book of Cloud Computing and there, everything we ever wanted to know about the subject, is explained. Check it out at Amazon:
Hope, this helps!

M$If you are a developer you need to work hard & learn how to develop scalable web applications on different PaaS (Azure, GAE etc)
If you are a customer/end-user you just need to get yourself familiar with the particular application you are using & in most of the cases it's as easy as using your e-Mail id.
If you are a student and need some basic & easy to understand info about Cloud Computing you can read the details from following link. It also explains a few practical & interesting scenarios where Cloud Computing can rescue customers. Some of the scenarios described there:
“A Chinese website set up so people can inform on corrupt officials has been inundated with so many visitors that it crashed shortly after launching”
“300,000 hits/second make Election Commission website crash”
"A website launched by French first lady Carla Bruni has crashed on its first day - overwhelmed by the number of users trying to access it at once"
