When it comes to finding discounts on hotels, my experience has been the coupons are usually not the way to get the best rate. Here is the problem – most hotel coupons (and car rental coupons for that matter) are based on a much higher rate than you would usually expect to pay when staying at the hotel. Often pricing is based on the rack rate and/or a very high base rate that can be as much as two or three times the “normal” rate. So, even coupons that look like good deals (stay two nights get a night free or 25% off a weekend stay) aren’t quite that good. I have never been able to beat the best internet or corporate rates using hotel coupons.

In terms of getting the best rate at the hotel (especially if you are looking for one hotel in particular), your best bet will be the hotel website. Westin Hotels like many others has a “Best Rate Guarantee” on their website, so you can know that the rate you get online will beat any others.

The other option with luxury hotels and resorts that you should consider is Priceline.com. Often the number of luxury hotels in a given area is small, so your chances of getting the exact hotel you are looking for are higher.
