SOME OF WORLD’S MOST DANGEROUS PLACES

Afghanistan. Tribal leaders, who make their living from shipping and drugs, dominate Khyber Pass. Robbery, murder, extortion and / or abductions are here everyday.

Albania is the most criminal place in Europe. Northern Albania is the Wild West of Europe. When you go to the north of Bajram Curri, on the road, you are in the robbers’ country. Your car might as well has a sign attached saying: Rob me! To move here, you need an armed security escort.

Algeria. Alger is the worst city of crime in the world. Every night, on average, 50 people are killed in Algiers. There are also often the bomb attacks in crowded places like on markets and in mosques.

Bougainville. In Port Moresby there are a lot of rapes, robberies and car thefts. The US Embassy tells us that it can not patronize those who want to go to bars or to visit public women.

Brazil. Ciudad del Este is a smugglers Boomtown. It is located in the border region nest to Paraguay and Argentina. This is the most important smuggling route for Bolivian cocaine. Cocain of more than 12 billion U.S. dollars value move here every year. In fact, this town has all kinds of crime: murders, robberies and even Islamic fundamentalist terrorists. The town has 100 000 inhabitants in there are 200 murders a year. To corrupt a customs official costs 500 U.S. dollars and a wrong passport
costs 5 000 U.S. dollars. Plenty of computers and other electronics and stolen cars are smuggled through the city.

Burundi
Bujumbura. In neighboring Rwanda, the war has forced thousands of rwandans to fled to Burundi. In Bujumbura there is a curfew extending form midnight to dawn. Tutsi A Armed tutsi thugs and soldiers of the army are moving in the streets after dark. Most of the hutus have fled to the surrounding hills. Burundi closes its land borders frequently without warning and also suspends the air traffic without warning.

Cambodia. In Phnom Penh there are daily murders and armed robberies. Bandits dressed as soldiers lurk foreigners. There is no doubt that you will be shot, if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. Moving on the streets is prohibited after 10 o’clock in the evening.

Congo. Disturbances, such as the looting and violence can occur without warning in all urban areas of Congo. Congolese authorities are skeptical of foreigners. Both U.S. and British citizens have been arrested as spies in Kabila. Border control staff will examine the passport, visas and vaccination certificates, and sometimes requires bribes for performing their official duties. Visitors are invited to be cautious and courteous, if exposed to such a situation.

India. Assam and Northeast India are regions of rebels, tribal wars, massacres and terrorism. Every day someone dies. AIDS and drug trafficking are rampant. Separatist guerrillas have begun to conduct their own antidrug policies: drug users are shot at the head three after warnings. In Assam one farm has a private army of 7,000-8,000 retired army soldiers guarding the plantings.

Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. Separatist violence continues in Punjab and its neighboring areas. Gangs abduct key officials of foreign companies. Pirates live in the region of Jim Corbett National Park and Dudhwa National Park, and along the roads leading to Hardwar, Rishikesh, Mussoorie and Dehra Dun.

According to http://www.indexmundi.com/map.aspx?v=Death+rate%28deaths%2f1%2c000+population%29 the highest death rate world-wide is in Swaziland, at 30.7 per 1000 per year. This is 266% higher than in the US. According to the same source, the top 10 highest death rates in the world are in Africa, ranging from 20.26 per 1000 per year in Niger up to Swaziland's 30.7. However, these death rates are overall, including disease, hunger, suicide, etc.

If you're interested in separating out the probability of a person being murdered, you have to look for homicide rates. According to http://www.guncite.com/gun_control_gcgvintl.html (data from the 1990's) the highest rate of homicides was in 1994 Estonia, at 0.2821 per 1000 population per year.

A more up to date source (and one less likely to be accused of bias) is http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_percap-crime-murders-per-capita which shows the highest homicide rate in the world is in Colombia, at 0.617847 per 1,000 population. This is followed by South Africa at 0.496008 per 1,000. The US stands in 24th place with 0.042802 per 1,000 people, while Sudan, Israel, Somalia and Afghanistan do not even make the list of the top 62 highest homicide rate countries.

Good addition, thanks. This resource explains the high Swazi death rate - 26% or more of the population are infected with HIV, with the fraction exceeding 50% for people under age 20. Life expectancy is only about 32 years.

Based on the Global Peace Index, the most dangerous places include Sudan, Israel, Somalia and Afghanistan.

-quote-

"The countries that rank at the bottom of the Global Peace Index (GPI) -- meaning the countries least at peace -- include Sudan, Israel, Somalia and Afghanistan. Let's take a look at what exactly makes these countries so dangerous.

Sudan, located in northeastern Africa, is in the midst of a humanitarian crisis and internal strife. The majority of the conflict occurs in Darfur, where there's little safety or security.

In Israel, violence and homicides are relatively low within the general population, but the risk for terrorist acts is high.

Somalia, on the east coast of Africa, saw its government collapse in 1991. Since then, the country has been plagued by violence and instability. Internal conflicts have displaced 8.5 million people. More than 100 pirate attacks occurred off the coast in 2008, continuing into 2009."

The "high" risk of terrorism in Israel is highly misleading. Since September 2000, a total of 1184 people were killed in Israel through terrorism (http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/Terrorism-+Obstacle+to+Peace/Palestinian+terror+since+2000/Victims+of+Palestinian+Violence+and+Terrorism+sinc.htm ).

This is out of a current population of 7.23 million (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/is.html ).

Thus the average annual rate of terror-related deaths in Israel over the past 9 years has been 18 per 1,000,000.

The total death rate in Israel is currently about 5.43 per 1,000, which places Israel at the 178th place worldwide in terms of mortality (http://www.indexmundi.com/israel/death_rate.html ).

As you can see, terrorism contributed about 1/3 of 1% to Israel's death rate, hardly a significant contribution.

By comparison, the US death rate is 8.38 per 1,000 (http://www.indexmundi.com/united_states/death_rate.html ) placing the US in 101st place worldwide in terms of mortality. This rate is over 54% higher than the Israel's.

How about Java, in Indonesia? It is located on the ring of fire (area in Pacific with an abundance of earthquakes and volcanoes) and has 30 volcanoes and 120 million people. Imagine the panic where you were caught in throng either being seared to death by hot lava, smothered with mud, or drown in a tsumami. Mount Merapi is a good example of a volcanoe whose dome might collapse at any moment.

Or how about being stuck on oil platform and not being able to get off during a violent hurricane? At least you would have some warning with that scenario. You would not, however, if a giant rogue wave devoured up the platform and you with in a huge wall of water weighing tons of thousands of pounds.

Welcome @komicwords. It would be beneficial if you were to support your statement with statistics backed up by citations. Otherwise it is simply stating an unsupported opinion on a matter which should be factual. I recommend reading http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-get-a-best-answer-on-mahalo to see what is needed to get a Best Answer on Mahalo. Good luck.
