Where is the best places to teach - online via telecommute?

Anyone with experience teaching at different venues care to share? Time versus compensation, class load etc...?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I am a certified teacher and have been looking at virtual schools myself. Two organizations I have been eyeing are Connections Academy and Florida Virtual School. At Connections, you will need to have state certification for the campus at which you are employed. At FVS, it helps if you at least have a Florida temp (I forget what FLA calls at the moment.)

Let's see what else do I remember...
Connections offers retirement/benefits after you climb the ladder. FVS requires an additional reading or ESL endorsement if you are in Language Arts, but I think that is a rule coming down from the state not FVS. On the other hand, the salary at FVS looked good. The application is a standard people-soft type of deal, but you must have references from two supervisors (people who have recently observed you in the classroom).

As far as time goes, I am sure everything from planning to teaching takes more time online. As far as class load and number of students, they probably have caps just like the regular classroom.

I would check out the tutoring board at the WAHM's website for more information. I saw a discussion about this topic in the fall.

Hope this helped a bit. Best of luck.

I've enjoyed teaching classes in Second Life but have also used UStream and wikis to great success. Some appreciate WebEx and video conferencing integration more than others. I enjoy virtual teaching more than live classes, although both are fun for different reasons.
