Where is the best area to get an apartment in Santa Monica, California in the low to mid-level price range?
My friend and I want to move to Santa Monica, California here soon, soon being within the next year. We are both on unemployment but have certifications, so finding a job hopefully wouldn’t be too difficult, but you never know. So we are inquiring about decent priced Apartments in the area. We are looking to pay as little as $400 a month and as high as $800, for the time being. We need a place that would allow for a cat or two, and is preferably near a grocery store at least. We are open to any suggestions that are a little out of the way as well.

For that price range, you are looking in the complete wrong area. Studios there are around $1000/month on average the last time I was there 2 years ago. I can only imagine it's raised if anything.
You're more likely to find a place that suits your price range out East by Chino or something. Irvine and Commerce were pretty reasonable a couple years ago if you don't mind a short drive to the beach.
