Albuquerque is a large city located in the state of New Mexico. It is considered the biggest city in New Mexico. It is still second to Santa Fe regarding a tourist destination. However, every autumn, it does have a gorgeous hot-air balloon fiesta.
Let's take a look at the Albuquerque's history. The city was named after the Duke of Alburquerque and was a Spanish settlement in 1706. This is where it gets its nickname as "The Duke City." Albuquerque's growth is attributed to railroads in the 1880s and 1920s. For transportation, it is still considered to be the center of activity. Their metropolitan population has reached almost 900,000, but is still the only urban area in America. The Albuquerque International Sunport, the University of New Mexico and other large businesses are headquartered there.

Albuquerque is the largest city in the state of New Mexico. It is located in the central part of the state. New Mexico is in the southwest part of the United States. Arizona is directly west of New Mexico and then California and the southern tip of Nevada is west of Arizona. Texas lies directly to the east of New Mexico and there are no states south. When crossing the southern border of the state you will enter Mexico. If you start on the east coast of the United States, Albuquerque is about 70% of the way to the west coast of the country. (This is for the continental United States only) Albuquerque is the 57th largest city in the country with nearly 530,000 people, according to the 2009 census.
