Social clubs based around personal interests are terrific places, because then you have something in common to build something on. But make sure you pick something that you are honestly interested in, because nothing is quite the turnoff that someone faking an interest in something just to get to you is.
Believe it or not, there are women interested in comics...superheroes...robotics...aeronautics...barbershop singing...just about anything you can think of. Just pick something you like, and then not only will you have a better chance, you'll be doing something else you like at the same time.
