Where in New York City is the Original Ray's Pizza?

Is there more than one?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

This question is almost one of legend and it is hard to answer. At one time there were over 40 establishments in New York City named Rays, Famous Rays, The Original Famous Rays etc. The oldest of these was opened Ralph Cuomo of Little Italy at 27 Prince Street in 1959. Cuomo was later convicted of heroin trafficking in 1969 after he was caught with 50 pounds of heroin.

The first pizzeria was popular so Cuomo opened a second one a couple of years later. As he got further embroiled in legal problems he sold the uptown one, at 1233 1st Ave at 66th St., to Rosolino Mangano in 1964. Meanwhile Mario Di Rienzo, who was a famous New York chef had a desire to make “the best” pizza and called his place Ray's Pizza when it opened in 1973.

Also in 1973 Joe Barri bought the Ray's Pizza on 76th Street and Third Avenue, that had belong to Ralph Cuomo. Both Barri Di Rienzo began to expand and open other Pizzerias. That’s the history, so you tell me which one is the Original Rays Pizza. It is kind of like a New York City insider joke.

Ray's Pizza has a few different names, such as "Ray's Original Pizza," "Famous Ray's Pizza," "World-Famous Original Ray's Pizza".

There are a lot of Ray's Pizza in New York.

Some of the address are:
1. 736 7th Ave, New York, NY
2. 462 Columbus Ave, New York, NY
3. 195 E Houston St, New York, NY
4, 204 9th Ave # 1, New York, NY
5. 77 Lexington Ave, New York, NY

For a more detail list, you can go to GoogleMap or BingMap, type in Ray's Pizza New York and they will give you a list of address.

This will be the oldest place now. It's at 27 Prince Street, Little Italy, Manhattan.
