I would not recommend that at all, not because it is illegal, but simply because most places that offer "Free" anything, will as well have the high risk of a viral attack upon your computer! This is not something gaming companies take lightly, because it costs gaming companies sometimes between 2 to 6 million dollars to create a quality game. So much is involved in game creation, people have to be paid, people get sick and you have to pay sick pay, vacation, medical, unemployment, taxes, you need a place to work, computers, have to purchase the game engine your software will be created with, if you can not find a suitable game engine, you must create your own game engine which can be even more expensive, you need modders, sound people, level editors, its very expensive to create a game, that you only pay $49.99 for. The original Doom sold over 1,000,000 copies, so even though a game could cost anywhere from 800,000 to 6,000,000 dollars, the profits can easily be up to 49,000,000 million.

So be careful on those websites you go to download "free" anything, because gaming companies, put their games out there, so people such as yourself will try and download them only to infect your computers with nasty bios eating, harddrive hungry virus'!

In the short run, and the long run, its just better to purchase the game you wish to play! Better to spend anywhere from 19.99 to 49.99 than to have to fork over 600.00 to 6,000 dollars for a new computer!
