Where do you rank Joe Paterno, head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions, as far as the top col
legiate coaches of all time? He has 394 wins, 129 losses and 3 ties. He has 5 undefeated seasons, 20 seasons of 10 or more victories and 2 national championship. There have been a lot of great coaches, Bear Bryant, Eddie Robinson and Bobby Bowden, among others. Do you judge on longevity, national championships, total victories, ability to recruit player or some other criteria? How long do you think Paterno will coach ? Do you think he should have retired by now? Thank you for your time!

I think Joe Paterno is in the top 5 college coaches of all time. The only ones who I would put ahead of him are Paul Bear Bryant and Eddie Robinson. He would be 3rd in a tie with Bobby Bowden in my opinion. He is the whole package for a college coach. The players respect him, he has up and down years but his win record is very good. He can recruit the top players in the nation to come play for him as well. I think he will coach until he is ready to leave and it will be his decision. I remember seeing him take off running down the sideline after a ref at halftime in the last couple of years. The man is incredibly fit for his age. I think if they forced him out Penn States program would be less because of it.
