Where do you go to get your computer fixed?

Self repairs and my friend with a screwdriver doesn't count. :)
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The following is an honest, not sarcastic answer: In the last three years when I've wanted to insure that my laptop was fixed, not trashed, with all my data or only my entire email wiped out forever by the finest Computer tech shops in this major US city where I live...I do indeed fix my computer myself.

How have I learned to do what needs to be done? I hang out on computer forums: cnet.com, pcworld.com, hp.com, processlibrary.com, majorgeeks.com, microsoft's forums, forums for various software utilities that I use to either protect, diagnose or repair my software and hardware. There are even online forums for Microsoft Office and also for just Outlook.

If I can learn about the inner workings of my computer, most people (is they have the time) can also. I'm a middle-aged female who obviously, like the rest of my generation had computerless childhoods and adolescences.

Having said that, the only chain repair place I have taken my computer to that only minimally botched my computer repair, leaving me with a still semi-operable computer is Geek Squad at Best Buy. Make sure that you go to their tech person who has been repairing computers the longest as they are more likely to understand your problem and have a quick and accurate solution.

I take it into a good Best Buy, and let Geek Squad tweak it.

that's what I'd recommend, too.
hopefully the repairs will fix them, and you won't need to buy a new one!

Since I have an Apple, I just take it into the Apple Store. It works fine with me, and I don't have to worry about using a friend or a screwdriver to fix my computer if anything were to go wrong. Apple has a great warranty as well as a Procare plan you can get so that they help you with your computer.

Try the geek squad they usually charge by the hour.
Or you can go to www.computerrepair.com.
ComputerRepair.com is dedicated to helping people solve their computer issues and to educate them on the technologies they interact with daily.
If you bought your computer at a retail location, you can take it there as well.
