I suspect that the producers of the show don't have a complete set of episodes on Hulu or other video sites to encourage DVD and other direct sales.

I really like Fringe and I think that it is worth the cost of the box set / download. When you pay for video like this you're really paying for quality and Fringe has an exceptionally high production value.
