where can i start learning to hack?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

All depends on what you want to hack.

If you want to do electronics hacks you need to learn electronics. I started at the age of 12 with "Getting Started In Electronics" by Forrest M. Mims III. I then started tearing things apart, fixing things, building things, and generally, what's referred to as hacking.

If you want to do software hacking, learn programming. Specifically, start with assembly programming on various processors, including ARM, x86, and various microcontrollers. You will need to learn how the systems work which often requires knowing digital electronics.

There really is no learning to hack. It is an extension of learning electronics, programming, engineering, etc.

Enjoy,
Ray

Mims III... Now that brings back memories!
As far as learning to hack... I think you have to look at the world like its legos. "yeah thats cool, but I can take it apart and make it do something else, or make it better!"

you could try learning the basics of operating systems from people in the linux community, this might be a good start. I would suggest running arch linux(http://lifehacker.com/5680453/build-a-killer-customized-arch-linux-installation-and-learn-all-about-linux-in-the-process) off of a usb drive with universal usb installer(http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/), you could also check out backtrack linux(http://www.backtrack-linux.org/) which was made for network testing and is a good tool for hackers. also if you were talking about hardware read these http://openbookproject.net/electricCircuits/. this video might also help clarify a few things

This is an overly general question. "How to hack" is not something you just go to class and learn. It takes a lot of experience in computers, networking, security, programming..etc. To get anywhere. I suggest you first take a look at some books on computer and network security and setup a small simple dev lab in your home. If you cannot make a small dev lab download something like "Virtual Box" so you can run a few computers on your main computer to mess with.
