Where can I purchase discount instruments?

Are there any used instrument stores online? What should I look for when buying second-hand guitars, pianos or drums?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Right now there are a lot of people trying to get rid of good instruments to make a little extra cash, so in that respect you are in luck because you have a big selection of used instruments to choose from. First, I would suggest Guitar Center. They have a catalog of used instruments online: http://used.guitarcenter.com/usedGear/index.cfm. There is also the Musician’s Friend site: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/used-gear?src=3WWRWXMG&ZYXSEM=0, in which you can purchase instruments which are the condition you choose, from 1 to 5, which is a great tool so you don’t get stuck with an instrument that is cheap but can’t play well.

The first thing you need to look for in a used instrument is basically how does it look? Are there any scratches, blemishes, dents, etc? If the instrument looks okay then you need to check it’s playability. You should be able to test it out before you buy it or it should come with some sort or warranty. If not, then I might pass. Even if you look on craigslist, most sellers would allow you to try the instrument out first. Keep in mind, if you are looking to purchase a piano or guitar, if it is out of tune those are things that are easily fixed, even if the guitar needs new strings it is cheap enough to fix, but if your drums need new heads then that can get expensive, so if they are not ready to use, then I would pass.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.
