Where can I obtain a chinchilla and what type of living environment would I have to provide for it?
When I was younger, one of my closest friends had a tiny chinchilla as a pet that we watched grow as kids. My little son now wants a small pet that could be either a gerbil or hamster. But we recently viewed photos online of chinchillas and he fell in love with them. I am now wondering where I can find one for purchase and what type of living environment I would have to set up for the little creature to survive? In nature, the chinchillas live in burrows or the crevices within rocks of South America. Can these little critters be raised in any home or do I have to take extra precautions when investing in this particular type of pet?

Chinchillas are cute little animals that any child would love as a pet. They cost about $80 to $300, depending on the specie you are buying and who you are buying from.
Since I do not know where you live, I know of a website where chinchilla breeders advertize for sale, you might be lucky to also get someone who wants to give out chinchilla babies for free. This is the website, http://www.olx.com/q/chinchilla/c-312 to buy from. On the next website you can get some to adopt, http://www.hoobly.com/12023/2511/0/
There are also some things you have to know about chinchillas before you buy:
*Chinchillas suffer badly from the heat.
* A chinchilla can live for 15 or even 20 years
*Chinchillas need time to play
* Chinchillas like peace and quiet
* Chinchillas are nocturnal i.e. they stay awake at night
*Chinchillas are problem eaters
*Chinchillas need hay
* Chinchillas don't like being cuddled
* Chinchillas need enough space to move around
