Ehow has a great instructional video and a written out step by step guide to french braiding. I have included the direct link below. I suggest grabbing your daughter or best friend and then watching the video. It is best to have a practice head of hair there, so you can actually try french braiding and be hands on. It is easier if you pick a model with straight long hair for your first time french braiding. Short hair is hard to french braid, and thick course hair can be a bit harder, as well.
Once you learn to french braid, then take on the short hair and course hair.
It is really pretty simple to learn. It is just like riding a bike, practice makes perfect. My best advice is to relax and go for being precise and not speed. You will be slow at first but in no time french braiding will be second nature!!
