Where can I get parenting] tips to help my children overcome their fear of the dark?
When do kids tend to outgrow their fear of the dark? Is there a parenting website or message board that will connect me with other parents that are dealing their children being afraid to go to bed at night?

Fear of the dark is a real fear for some children. Why some children are a afraid of the dark and others are not remains a mystery. Often the fear of darkness begins when a child is two or three years old, right around the same time that they begin to develop their imaginations. They often cannot distinguish between reality and their own vivid imaginations.
Television and even children s movies can often fuel their imaginations and fear. Their minds tend to overwork when left alone in the dark. It may help your child to establish a routine that leads to winding them down several hours before bedtime. Start with a quiet meal, a warm bath and a happy bedtime story. It may also help to give them their own flashlight and after story time, turn off the lights and explore under the bed and in the closet and behind the curtains with the flashlight, allow them to keep the flashlight with them throughout the night.
