Where can I get hairstyle ideas for a black tie event?

I will be attending my first black tie event in a few months. I would like to dress appropriately and have my hair done appropriately.

Can you give me some hairstyle ideas for a black tie event? I have long hair, so i need to know if it is best to wear it down or in an up-do. Thanks!!

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

French twist.

This sleek and elegant hairstyle is popular among women when it comes to classy and formal occasions, like weddings, debuts, and black-tie events. The French twist can also look casual too, worn in the office, or even during an afternoon in the mall.

How To French Twist Hair

-Brush your hair so it’s all on one side and use grips at the back to hold it in place.

-Apply hairspray all over your hair.
Wrap the hair around your thumb and twist it up into a cone shape, holding it secure with your other fingers.

-Use pins to slide in and around the twist so they point in towards the middle, to hold the hair in place.

-Use a bristle brush to neaten the style and use hairspray to hold the twist together.

In Short, when you’re in need of an elegant hairstyle, try the classic French twist. It’s a common sight at proms and weddings, but you can also put it up more loosely for a casual look, not unlike a messy bun.

I have been to a couple black tie events and you can really go either way. You can wear your hair down and styled perfectly or curled, or you can sport an up-do. When it comes to special occasions, such as this I always wear an up-do. There is something very sleek and elegant looking about up-dos.

My personal opinion is to go the up-do route. Without physically seeing your hair or being able to feel the texture. I will include some general hairstyle ideas that I think would look great for a black tie event.

You can also go to your stylist and allow her to experiment with your hair. Have her try several styles and see which you like the best.

You can also do this at home. Take a night and experiment with different hairstyles prior to the event. You can experiment with your hair yourself or call you best friend or a family member over and let them experiment with styles for you.
