Where can I get a load of cheap, plastic track for toy cars?

What I really want is to just have a huge load of little flexible plastic pieces of track which I can stick together, some going in corners and some staying straight, like in hotwheels tracks, but without having to buy an expensive set with some motorised thing and very little adaptable track.

My goal is to be able to run tracks around my room starting high up so the toy cars can pick up speed, then possibly later to put little motor powered / wind up cars on it. All I've been able to find is new hotwheels stuff which, while it does have the right sort of track I'm looking for, can only be bought in expensive sets with some novelty electric part of the track like a loop the loop, or those old matchbox tracks which are now vintage and expensive.

So what would be ideal is to find a way to get like 100 cheap plastic pieces of track with no real manufacturing cost and no claim to be anything more.

Big thanks to anybody who helps, this little dream of mine has been running around my head for like a year now.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

eBay will probably be your best bet. You could buy small lots of tracks at a time or one huge set. For example, I found this 100 piece (90+ feet) Hot Wheels track on eBay. The current bid is $42, and the auction ends in less than 24 hours.

Use Yahoo! Local and look for local yard sales, garage sales or just personal ads from people!

Try looking at and posting at places like craigslist.org, or trying garage sales in your newspaper that advertise a big or multi-family sale featuring kids' toys. There may also be flea marts or used toys sales in your area. Good luck, it sounds like an awesome project!!

Try freecycle too. Someone may be cleaning out an attic and have some for free.
