The parabola is a mathematical term. It is the intersection of a right circular surface and a plane that is parallel to a generating straight line of that surface. Given a point, also known as the focus, and a corresponding line, known as the directrix, on the plane, the locus of points in that plane that are the equal distant from them is a parabola. The line that splits the parabola through the center is called the axis of symmetry. The point on the axis of symmetry that intersects the parabola is called the vertex. The vertex is the point where the parabola changes directions. Parabolas can open up, down, left, or right. The very basic formula for a parabola is Y=A(X-H)^2. There are more complicated versions of the formula, however, the basic form can give you a good idea.
