Where can I find the best deals on flights?
Should I go to the airline's websites directly? Are sites like Travelocity or Priceline better for deals? Is it cheaper to include hotels with flights, or should I leave them separate? Are the name your price flights a good deal?

Just about every major airline (and hotel chain for that matter) offer a “Best Price Guarantee” on their website. This means that it is almost never the case that you can get a better deal on travel sites like Travelocity or Expedia than you can on the individual companies’ websites.
However, these websites along with aggregators like Kayak and Farecast can be great tools to help identify WHICH of the airlines or hotels will give you the best pricing. Typically, I will usually use both Kayak and Farecast to help me to determine (1) if it is a good time to purchase (using Farecast’s price indicators) and (2) which airline is offering the best deal (using Kayak). From there, I will buy directly with the individual airline.
I’ve never been particularly crazy about the name your own price feature with airlines since I can rarely be flexible enough to save money with them. However, I do find them great for both hotels and car rentals.
