Where can I find more on history of photography?

I'm looking for a time line of history of photography. Is there a website or a good book?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You can find out a lot about the history of photography online. There are also a number of museums you can visit to learn about photographic history. One of the best is the George Eastman House in Rochester New York. Another great museum that takes you through the history of photography is the Photography Museum in Antwerp, Belgium. Check out the resources link below to find a museum close to you.

Photo.net and Wikipedia have really good accurate timelines and basic history of Photography. You have to be careful about using online resources however. Most will tell you that Photography was “invented” in the 1800’s, which is not true. Photography is the culmination of a number of inventions that date back to the time of the ancient Greeks. "Photography" is derived from the Greek words photos ("light") and graphein ("to draw"). The camera obscura was invented in China and stimulated other inventors to try to record what the camera projected.
