Where can I buy real balsamic vinegar in the United States?
From my understanding, the stuff sold in most grocery stores is not real balsamic vinegar, but vinegar with colorants and junk added to it to give it a slight taste of balsamic vinegar. Is there anywhere in the United States where I might be able to special order real balsamic vinegar? Or is this a true impossibility in our country of preservatives and icky stuff?
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.. I don't have years and years to make my own!

Real balsamic vinegar is I available at standard grocery stores, but you have to read labels and look. Often it is in the gourmet sections and gourmet specialty stores.
Real balsamic Vinegar is made from wine barrel scrapings that are fermented and are thicker. Depending on the type of wine actually used and how long it is aged for gives each brand a unique taste.
Kroger, Food City, Earth Fare, World Market, carry them. If you are in NY you can obtain it at Balduccis, Zabars, deandeluca, and at Dagastinos and the little gourmet shops.
DeanDeluca, Pompeiian, Avantsavioa and Modena are the most common. They can range in price from 7 dollars to 54 dollars a bottle depending on the age and wine used.
