I am having troubles finding the answer to this question for you as well. But what I recommend you to do is to go to the phonebook, look up Railroad companies in your local area, and ask them if they know where you can purchase railroad ties at.. Sometimes they will even let people take railroad ties for free during Track Construction times... It depends on what you are using them for... The other people you can try to contact is the local Landscapers. As they also sell them as Landscape Ties, Some Garden Centers have them as well, but this all varies from area to area of who to contact. We had recieved free railroad ties from our local railroad company.. Permission to just pick them up off a pile under a bridge .. after The tracks were redone. Hope that helps. I'll also do a little more research later, and see if I can find anything more. As I do get asked this question alot. - DNatureofDTrain
