Where and how can I learn to play the sitar?

Indian classical instrument
Tip for best answer: M$0.30
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I found an online tutorial on how to play the sita. Try to visit this it can really help you learn how to play this instrument.

-----quote----

Screwing in the top tumba:

The top sound gourd (tumba) is sometimes packed separately. Unpack this and carefully screw it into it's hole in the back of the top of the instrument.Using the Mezrab:

This is the Sitar 'pick'.

Holding the Mezrab in the thumb and forefinger of your left hand extend the index finger of your right hand. Place the mezrab over your right hand index finger like this:

---end of quote---

You can read the full tutorial at the source.

I also found a video that might also serve as your guide;

Your best shot is probably to look into the adult enrichment or music classes at your local university or community college and cross your fingers for sitar instruction. This may sound like more than you'd like to do, but you could also try hanging fliers in Indian grocery stores and restaurants. I hate to suggest craigslist.org because of the amount of spam you'll get, but there is always craigslist.
