Whenever the term 'liberal' crops
For the record--and conservatives *can* look this up: Obama isn't a Marxist or a socialist. If he *were*, how did he get to be President in the first place?
Second? Liberals like myself *abhor* Marxism. For one thing, it has nothing to do with being American and wanting equality for all. Marxists didn't believe in those things.
They believed in control of the people through capital wealth and financial gain as a last resort.
Marxism itself was briefly associated with Leninism in a bid on imperialism--as the final stage of capitalism itself--where the might of one nation is brought to bear on by another for strategic or economic gains which benefit the wealthy and the powerful.
Not the people it was originally supposed to represent.
I understand what being a "socialist" means, but it's not connected to being a liberal--whose root words mean "freedom" and "liberty".
Socialism a political theory or system in which the means of production and distribution are controlled by the people and operated according to equity and fairness rather than market principles.
An *improbable* task given the fact that the US is solely on a "capitalistic"-principle; having an economic system based on the private ownership of property and production and distribution of goods, characterized by a free competitive market and motivation by profit.
And often done on the backs of those whom have very little or none at all.
So how can true socialism and Marxism exist in a country such as ours?
Why can't conservatives see this?

Seriously though, is there a conundrum hidden in there somewhere? That's one of the longest questions I've ever seen. It deserves some sort of a prize. If nothing else, I hope you feel better now that you got it off your chest!
Your extremely broad-brushed generalizations of conservatives effectively contradicts your attempt to establish your intellectual superiority, which pretty much knocks the foundation from underneath your "question", but that's OK, it was fun to read, and informative too!!
Thanks for posting.

M$So, Marxist and Socialist Parties can and do exist in the USA. Also, there can be a Liberal Party. There was a Progressive Party at one time too.
Yes the rabid, drooling right wingers lump all the parties and political ideas left of the most conservative Republicans together and decline to understand if you try to explain ideas like Liberalism or progress. Still, your question does not do a good job of describing the Socialists or Marxists so it is a bit confusing.
Real conservatives (there used to be educated ones like William Buckley) are well aware of all this. However, currently most conservatives are either hypocritical wealthy folks or their ignorant dupes who listen to demagogues rant on the radio and preachers screaming at them every Sunday. They really don't know much, let alone the basics of political ideology. So that's why they mix the words all together. They don't know any better and don't want to know any better. The old name used to be the Know-nothing Party, which actually got quite a few votes back in the mid-19th century.

M$First, I do not apply a broad brush to people who openly claim to espouse a liberal or progressive philosophy. I do not believe that the majority of liberals harbor Marxist intent. That is often proven out by how voters can vote for a progressive ideal floated as a solution to all of their problems, and subsequently vote them out when they realize that the touted solution was in fact an intrusion to their core freedoms.
As long as the American people do not relinquish their freedoms, the individual citizen will remain the strongest asset of your country. It is your own people that can check the encroachment of any domineering philosophy such as Marxism.
This is the predominant reason why anything that empowers government and creates patronage between government and the citizenry should be opposed. Since this line of thought is more in tune with the conservative side of the political spectrum I imagine that some on the left view it as an overwhelming assault on them, or as a direct attempt to link them to Marxism.
Rest assured, true conservatism merely wants to protect that which sustains the US as an auto-sufficient nation, the core freedoms which permit individualism, self-responsibility and self-reliance to thrive and prosper.
I am not an American, but I do hold conservative political beliefs and love and respect your country very much. The moment that one says something can't happen, it is when one should be more vigilant. Stay strong USA and stay free.
