When I worked out of the home, I used my long commute to unwind. Driving can be stressful, sure, but I tried hard to make my car my little oasis. I made sure I always had great music and a very good audio book to keep me company. I made the effort to try and push work thoughts back and focus on the music or the stories. By the time I pulled in the driveway, I was usually calm again. If not, I threw on running shorts and went for a run or a brisk walk. The dog sure enjoyed that!
Working at home is tricky. Work IS home and home IS work sometimes. After 3 years of doing this, I'm still not sure I've got the routine down. I work only in an office - rarely do I venture out with a laptop to work for clients. Once I leave the threshold of my office, I'm not working. I'm struggling with this one though - it's very tempting to say "oh I'll just pop in to see what's going on with work" - yeah, that winds up being an hour or two. Now that I'm typing this out I'm inspired to work a little harder to leave work in that room.
I think if you have had a particularly awful day, and you have an understanding spouse, you can bring the work home...at least long enough to vent, get over it and totally relax.

When you bring your emotional baggage home from work, it can impact your relationship with your family and friends. While they want to be supportive, dumping your anger on your family can cause them to pull away and make it harder to interact.
You should also look at ways to minimize the stress you feel at work. Avoid office gossip, practice good communications skills with your boss and co-workers and try to clearly define work roles, responsibilities and project assignments. Most of the frustrations I see in the work environment stem from personality clashes, or poorly defined requirements. Analyze the source of your routine frustrations and try to minimize them. Less frustration makes it easer not to 'take it home".

Let go of the frustration by enjoying some good music, a little personal time, and the solitude of the time in the car when no one else on earth can hear you. Works every time.

M$One of the best ways not to bring stress home from work is to deal with it at work. Talk about issues with co-workers with the co-workers themselves, or talk to a boss if there is some trouble. Try not to play into the politics that surround a work place.

Go to a gym and workout, take a long walk or take the long way home and crank up some relaxing music to help chill you out before you get home. Everyone releases stress in different ways, so finding something that works for you is the key.

M$Apparently, the best solution to reducing stress from work is to keep moving. Going for a walk or to the gym after work will help reduce the stress and put you in a better mood when you get home. Employers could also help to reduce some of that stress by having a wellness program for their employees that incorporates good nutrition, ways to deal with stress, and some type of physical activity during work.
