When you get multiple job offers, do you let perks like nice offices affect your decision?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Considering that we spend half of our waking day at the office, it should be a tolerable place. I have definitely felt run down by working in a dim, uncomfortable office. Having a pleasant environment is definitely an important issue. There are also health issues, such as mold and dust that should be considered. Sometimes ratty old buildings actually effect your general well being, following you home from the office.

I also definitely consider other perks like more casual dress codes, reserved parking, lunch options in the neighborhood, etc. Work is just such a huge part of our lives that whatever we can do to make it more pleasant, it's probably worth it. If the pay is about equitable, I'll always go to the more comfortable place to work, even if it's a farther drive, less prestigious, etc.

Job satisfaction is the most important criteria in achieving a successful career and business. Having "nice offices" definitely falls under this criteria.

Factors such as cleanliness, desk space, good lighting (sun and electric), staff relations and other aesthetically pleasing factors create a relaxed environment leading to motivated employees with high efficiency.

If you are not happy with your surrounding then you will not be motivated and therefore job satisfaction and efficiency will decrease. This could also lead to a bigger problem of self confidence....

In other-words if you are happy with you surrounding then you will work well and be happy to go to work, if not then you will not be motivated to go to work and will not keep the job long. You will either leave or in the famous words of Donald Trump "Your Fired"

Hope this helps

On its own, a nice office is not going to sway me. However, yes, I do let perks affect my decision. The most impressive perks I have ever heard of are office chefs and office masseuses! I would so love to work in an office with those perks!

However, my most important considerations are:
1 pay
2 the culture and purpose of the workplace
3 commute
4 hours

Perks come in somewhere after those. If two places had roughly the same pay, culture, commute, and hours, then you betcha I would pick the place with the nicer office or the chef or masseuse.

Money talks with me.. work is work I'd go for what paid best.. not just in wage but overall you have to counter in wage, hours, gas used to get there, benefits, the whole shabang. If they were equal in this department I'd be more likely to be swayed by the nature of the work than where I'd be doing it. I'm a tunnel worker anyway.. when im busy everything else disappears.

I usually go with the job where I think I would be happiest, most fulfilled, and least stressed. If that entails working in a warehouse, I don't care. I'm not into big, fancy offices. I just want to look forward to going to work in the morning, and feel like I've accomplished something when I leave at night.

I've worked in "nice" offices in law firms, banks, and others, and I was miserable. The happiest I ever was was when I worked outside all day in a garden center, tending to and selling plants in jeans, shorts, and dirty sneakers. I never have felt at home in a professional office, dressed in professional clothes, although I was forced to do it to support my children.

So, no, a "nice office" is not what I would be looking for. More like a friendly, low stress work environment.

This has happened to me twice. I went with the one that had the better pay and better hours. Having a nice office is great, but I have made better money working in a yucky office opposed to a nicer one. (maybe thats the reason for the yucky office, the pay compensates for it lol).
