When you get into an argument with a friend, and both of you are equally at fault, should you apologize first or wait for your friend to?

Tip for best answer: M$3.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I believe that you should be the one to apologize; regardless of who is "more" at fault. There's no use in being stubborn and waiting for the other person to apologize for his/her actions first. Admitting to your faults is being the bigger person.

Instead of apologizing in that situation, I usually just crack a joke or do something silly that gets us laughing together. The apologies come naturally once we are having fun together again.

If you feel you have done something worthy of apology, then you should apologize. I always told my children, be the bigger person you will be a happier person.
So I would definitely apologize first.

If you are both wrong and you both know it. You should step up and admit you were wrong. Everything should go back to normal after that if there is no other conflict.

This isn't a right" or "wrong"...because even if your friend is more than 50% at fault, you can give the relationship a gift by apologizing first. Waiting for the other person to apologize could put a pall on the relationship, whereas apologizing can clear the air...even if you are "less" at fault.

If you know you are at fault, I'd just go ahead and apologize. Why prolong the fight by waiting to see if they will apologize as well. If they never do does it make you any less wrong? and if they do first does it make you any more right? Nope and nope.
