When will the price of the iPad drop below $499?

However, as a little bit of an Apple watcher with an interest in pricing strategy, my guess is that the soonest you are likely to see a price cut is just in time for the holiday season. Apple has a bit of history when it comes model launches and price cuts in time to catch the holiday spending wave.
The only way it's going to be any sooner is if something spectacular happens, like people flocking to a rival device in droves.
Also, you can be certain that even Apple won't have made any definite plans yet on when, how or even if they'll cut prices in future. They may have some ideas, but they'll rethink that depending on whether sales are either much stronger or much worse than expected.

M$For example, Apple does not currently offer a Military or Education discount on the iPad. I think that they will in the future. I bet that they'll sell the individual units cheaper to accredited people and more then that, offer deeply discounted offers on bulk packs. If a university orders 10,000 to give one to each student, this could put the end price per student well below $500.
Also, I can see Apple eventually allowing the iPad to be bundled. Newspapers and the print industry in general are putting a lot of stock in the iPad and tablet industry in general. It would make sense to me that with a 5 year subscription to a magazine, someone could receive an iPad. This would likely be negotiated as a similar bulk purchase deal as an educational institution.
All up in the air right now. However, I don't see a standard price drop coming - ever.
