When will texting 911 become an option in the US?
I'm sure many have thought it would be easier to text 911 when there is a burglar, or maybe if texting 911 was an option those who have been kidnapped would have more a chance of survival, as well as things as simple as, you see a fight but don't want to be obvious about calling the police, texting may be easier.
I personally have been witnessing some pretty nasty domestic disputes coming from my boyfriends brother and his girlfriend, and I am afraid of them knowing that I was the person to report it, and I'm wishing texting was an option.
So, is there anything out there stating when texting may become an option? Or are there any counties maybe trying this out to see how well it works and if it truly would be beneficial?
Thanks!

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Soon but not soon enough.
In some places notably new york (where i was born), you can actually use MMS and text pictures of things like potholes and graffiti to the local municipalities.
Its extremely convenient as well for things like eye-sores in the rural areas that need to be dealt with by different departments around the city.
Jason calacanis actually hosted a talk on a project similar to this application.
I'll see if i can dig up that video.
EDIT:
Yep found the video, however there was another video as well with jason hosting or at a talk about the app.
The site and application have surprisingly boomed, and im actually happy i answered this question because i have now learned there is now a android version available. As well as it now being available in more cities other than LA.
