Hi there @jimnaa!
The first ever Grammy Awards ceremony happened on May 4, 1958 at the Grand Ballroom of the Beverly Hills Hotel. At that time, 28 awards await the best nominee for each category that has shown and shared something excellent to the music industry.
Grammy Awards or originally called Gramophone Award was the product of the union of various record executives who wants artists to keep producing what they call “higher standard of popular taste”. During those years, rock ‘n roll music has been very prevalent and this alarmed the record executives. Yes, they don’t really like rock music during those days. Actually, not just rock music but other evolutions of music like new wave, rap, R&B and other rebellious (at least to them) type of music.
Years later, Grammys finally accepted the new breed of music; including rock music, which they didn’t really like back then. By 1961, the Grammy awards finally added the Best Rock & Roll Recording to their growing awards list which Chubby Checker won that year.
