Harvard was founded in September of 1636, in Cambridge, MA, by the Massachusetts legislature. Harvard is the oldest school in the United States. Harvard was also the first to be a corporation that was chartered in the U.S. John Harvard was Harvard’s first benefactor and, thus the school was named after him. Their motto stands for "Truth." It is a private school that has an endowment of $27.4 billion. Drew Gilpin Faust is currently Harvard's president. He heads a tremendous staff:
