Halo: Combat Evolved, also known more simply as Halo, was released for the Xbox, Windows PCs, and Macsystems on November 15, 2001. It was developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft Game Studios. It was the most prominent launch title for Microsoft's first gaming console, the original Xbox. It was the first game in the Halo series to be released, and has sold over five million copies as of 2005.
The game introduced players to the Halo universe for the first time, featuring the first appearance of the cybernetically enhanced protagonist Master Chief, who would be the main figure in the Halo Trilogy. Halo: Combat Evolved was followed up by Halo 2 in November 2004, and Halo 3 in September 2007.
Two more games outside of the main trilogy have also been released, with both of them featuring events that occur before those of the main trilogy. Halo Wars is a real-time strategy game released in February 2009, and Halo: Reach, the latest Halo game, was released in September 2010.
