You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Chicago was first inhabited by a merchant in the name of Jean Baptiste Point du Sable of Haiti during the closing decade of 1770's. By 1795, Fort Dearborn was put up on what is known today as Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive. During the War of 1812, Fort Dearborn was razed but was later restored following the war.

In 1837, Chicago was officially founded as a City, taking into account the competitive location of the city, which is crisscrossed by both the Illinois & Michigan waterways, which connects Great Lakes with the Mississippi river, thus making it one of the growth centers of America. However, with the establishment of the nations railway network, with half of it linked to Chicago, railway lines have replace the waterways as the major transport modes for major economic goods.

Chicago was founded in 1833. Most older cities were founded near water because it was a great source of transportation.
