When you sell a house, are the mirrors included?

Rules as relate to California and New York
Tip for best answer: M$5.02
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

When you sell a house, certain parts of the house convey (that means that the new owners get to keep those items). Items that convey include ceiling fans and lighting fixtures that were in the home when the new owners signed the contract, and mirrors that are attached to the wall. If you have a bathroom mirror or a mirror over your fireplace, then those mirrors will belong to the new owners. However, mirrors that come off of the wall---such as a mirror hanging over your dresser---do not convey to the new owners.

When you and the other family review the contract for the new home, you may specific certain items in the contract. For example, if you are the buyer, you can say that you want to keep the mirror in the upstairs hallway. At that point, the seller can either agree that you can keep it, or they can say no.

In the same way, the seller can negotiate the contract as well. The seller may decide to specify that they wish to take a specific mirror, even though it may be difficult to remove from the wall. The buyer may agree with these terms, or they can say no.

In either case, it is very difficult to remove a mirror if it has been glued to the wall. So look at the mirror carefully before you make a decision on how to handle this matter.

If you need more information, a realtor can advise you.

Thank you for asking.

Yes, the mirrors are included whenever you sell a house. There is no reason why the mirrors should be removed when a house is being sold. It would take too much time and effort to remove the mirrors if they are built or fixed mirrors in the house. Also, mirrors that are portable can be removed from the house.

I think so, if they are like embedded in the house, like those normally in the bathroom. I might be wrong, but I don't think there are rules governing such matter anywhere. If it looks like something is missing if you remove the mirror, then I think the mirror should stay.
